The tour kicked off with a concert
at the newly opened Perth
Concert Hall, and also included a
London date at the Cadogan Hall
in Chelsea, a church converted
into a beautiful classical music
venue. I’m sure we were the
loudest thing they every had!

Another highlight of the tour was
the Whitby Musicport Festival, a
great festival of world music and
a chance for us to meet & watch
some great performers.

Our concert in Cardigan was filmed
by the crew at Creative Mwldan,
to be made into the very first
Mugenkyo DVD.

After a 9 am get-in, we worked
hard to get the lighting done in
double quick time, as well making
sure every item of equipment
looked in tip top condition.

In the afternoon we filmed three
takes each of “Tomoe”,
“Todoroki”, “Fudoshin” and
“Ikkyo”, as well as a full show in
the evening in front of a capacity
audience.

It was an exhausting day, and
Mackie broke all records,
performing the odaiko big drum
six times in one day! Phew!

An exciting development on this
tour was the advancement of the
drum-tying into an art-form in
itself.

Lucy, Georgie and tour player
Peter, through their diligence and
attention to detail, elevated the
level of the drum tying technique
to a new plane.

Every day at the theatre, the
three “shime” drums and four
“okedo” drums must be tied for
the evening’s performance, and
on this tour the drums were tied
to perfection every single day.
