Taiko Academy

Taiko Academy is the top level training programme at the Dojo, the purpose of which is to train and develop players of professional standard. Taiko Academy members are the main performers at the annual Dojo Showcase Concerts in Central Scotland – the Big Bang.

The more experienced Taiko Academy members also perform with the Dojo Drummers, representing the Dojo at events across the UK.

New members are admitted once a year, in March after the Dojo Showcase Concerts. Before being considered for Taiko Academy, applicants must train for a minimum of 3 months at the Dojo, with either Project Taiko or Taiko Night.

This also applies to applicants who have played Taiko in Japan and to experienced percussionists. New members are selected on the basis not only of rhythmic ability, form, stamina, but also on attitude and character. Current members are continually reassessed for their suitability as part of the team.
